The most common skincare mistake is doing too much. A long routine is harder to keep up, costs more, and gives your skin more chances to react. A short routine, done every day, beats an elaborate one done now and then. Here is how to build one.
The three jobs of a routine
Every effective routine does three things: it cleans the skin, it adds and seals in moisture, and — in the morning — it protects against UV. Everything else is optional. Treatments like vitamin C or retinal are useful, but they sit on top of those basics, not in place of them.
A morning routine
- Cleanse with the Quartz Gel Cleanser.
- Prep with the Spring Water Toning Mist.
- Treat with the Vitamin C Riverlight Serum.
- Moisturize with the Slate Daily Moisturizer.
- Protect with the Mineral Shield SPF 30.
An evening routine
- First cleanse with the Clay & Cedar Cleansing Balm to remove sunscreen.
- Second cleanse with the Quartz Gel Cleanser.
- Treat with the Smooth Stone Retinal Treatment (2–3 nights a week to start).
- Moisturize with the Riverbed Recovery Cream.
If you only buy four products
| Step | Product | When |
|---|---|---|
| Cleanse | Quartz Gel Cleanser | AM & PM |
| Hydrate | Hyaluronic Pebble Serum | AM & PM |
| Moisturize | Slate Daily Moisturizer | AM & PM |
| Protect | Mineral Shield SPF 30 | AM |
This four-step routine works for almost everyone. Once it is a habit, you can add a treatment serum. Not sure where to start? Read Know Your Skin Type or browse the full shop.
